A Rochester landmark since 1975, The Frog Pond has had only three owners over three decades! Originally a Park Avenue barber shop, The Frog Pond (originally Charlie’s Frog Pond) first served food in 1975 under the ownership of Charlie Carrado. An old hang-out of famous Rochester artist and friend of Charlie, Ramon Santiago, Charlie’s Frog Pond was a Rochester institution from the very beginning drawing customers and staff to its Park Avenue location! Together with decorator Ron Church, Charlie introduced the original frog print wallpaper which was later replaced by a more vibrant, yellow version when Betsey Wilson took over the Park Avenue gem in the early 90′s! During Betsey’s ownership, Charlie’s Frog Pond became a hometown favorite for its vibrant interior, breakfast classic and daily blackboard dinner specials, making the pint-size bistro a one of a kind Park Avenue stand-out!
In late 2010, a new chapter of The Frog Pond’s legacy began with Kevin Crego and Eleni Gitsis Papademetriou and a re-modernized name, simply “The Frog Pond.” While it was essential that The Frog Pond’s legacy and famous favorites be maintained, it was certainly time for a “love lift!” Our 2011/2012 renovations included new toad-skin seating, green frog-skin wallpaper, the original Coney Island Board walk planks that line our dining room, new powder rooms and in the spirit of tradition, the art of the late Ramon Santiago. During its renovation, a memory wall paying homage to The Frog Pond’s rich history and 30+ year legacy was also incorporated in the rear of the restaurant!
The Frog Pond is annually ranked by City Newspaper’s BEST OF ROCHESTER and Urbanspoon for BEST BRUNCH, BEST BURGER, BEST AMERICAN and BEST OF PARK AVENUE! Our classic breakfast features rank The Frog Pond as the #1 BEST Brunch in Town (Urbanspoon 2011, 2012, 2013)! The launch of a Gourmet Burger Menu in early 2012 also propelled The Frog Pond’s delicious burgers among the top ranking burgers in Rochester! In March of 2013, The Frog Pond was published in a NY Times article titled “48 Hours in Rochester, NY” for our fabulous brunch and in the August 2013 issue of Rochester Magazine for our rockin’ Bloody Marys. Most recently on August 22 2013, The Frog Pond was featured in a Rochester Democrat & Chronicle piece titled “Cheap Eats: The Frog Pond Gets A Freshening.”
